Anglo Leasing Report Rejected East African Standard 04 November 2004 Page: 15
Parliament rejected a report of the controversial Anglo-Leasing Finance Passport tender. Although members from the opposition won the vote on acclamation, some from the Government benches also rejected the Motion to approve the report by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee.
It is understood that the report was rejected becaused members felt it was hollow as it did not incriminate anyone. There was a feeling the opposition members were also unhappy with the expunging of Finance minister David Mwirarias name from the report, thus clearing him of any allegations.
The matter is now put to rest in the House unless fresh details emerge on the Sh2.7 billion contract. Continuing with his Motion, South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara (Ford-People) said October 28 will remain the darkest moment in his life.
Unlike the previous evening when he employed the "stalling" technique by speaking for 75 minutes, Magara was yesterday lost for words and only took five minutes to move his Motion. Yesterday, members from mostly the opposition side walked out of the House soon after the acclamation vote had been taken.
