Kanu chairman Uhuru Kenyatta has urged President Kibaki to sack senior officials tainted by the Anglo-Leasing scandal. Uhuru said the resignation of Finance minister David Mwiraria over the scam was bold. "We would like to commend him. It is the first time in the history of this country for a senior minister to step aside," he said.
"I believe others would follow suit and resign as it was a good precedent," he added. He urged the President to sack senior Government officials implicated in the scam if they fail to resign. "We will continue to fight against corruption and ensure that corrupt elements are not in the Government," he said, Elsewhere, Mwingi South MP, Kalonzo Musyoka, on Wednesday urged the President to convene Parliament. He said a Parliamentary Select Committee should be formed to probe the scandal. "There is need for a Parliamentary Select Committee to deal with details and the depth of the scandal," he said. He said Mwirarias resignation was long overdue.
"I warmly welcome the move. It was long overdue. They had been exposed earlier and the others should follow suit," he said. He said the committee formed would travel to the UK to interview John Githongo, who exposed the scandal. "The interview should be done under media cameras so that Kenyans can know the truth," he said. He said Kibakis Government was facing a national crisis over the scandal.
