A wave of public criticism has forced the Kenya government to stop a Ksh2.7 billion ($34.6 million) passport contract, pending investigations.
The cost of the passport issuing equipment, which was to be sourced overseas, was controversially inflated from Ksh800 million ($10.3 million) to Ksh2.7 billion ($34.6 million) then awarded to a French firm without competitive bidding.
