A parliamentary committee yesterday asked Britain to give the Government a secret dossier in its possession on the Anglo Leasing scandal. This would enable the Government to prosecute former Cabinet ministers and top officials mentioned in the multi-billion-shilling scandal, the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs said.

Members of the committee said the British government should assist President Kibakis administration to conclusively end the mystery surrounding the Sh7 billion scandal. The call by the committee, chaired by Kabete MP Paul Muite, came a day after the visiting UK Secretary of State for International Development Hillary Benn urged President Kibaki to take action against former ministers mentioned in the Anglo Leasing and Goldenberg scandals.

"We support his (Mr Benn) call and ask his government to provide concrete evidence it has to enable the Government to prosecute the former ministers," he said.

Mr Benn had on Wednesday night asked the Government to investigate former ministers David Mwiraria (Finance) and Kiraitu Murungi (Justice and Constitutional Affairs) – who were mentioned in the Anglo Leasing scam.

Former Education minister George Saitoti, named in the Goldenberg scandal, should also be investigated and prosecuted, said the UK minister said. He spoke at length on corruption in Kenya at Panari Hotel in Nairobi and disclosed that he had, during a meeting at State House, told President Kibaki that the international community was watching the country.
