Kanu yesterday accused the Narc government of abetting corruption and vowed to expose more deals of graft by senior officers in the ruling coalition.

Party acting chairman Mr Uhuru Kenyatta told a rally in Nakuru attended by 23 MPs: "The level of corruption in the government is worrying and one wonders whether there is any difference between Kanu and Narc."

He said Kanu would continue to keep the government on its toes by exposing its shady deals. The criticism follows a stinging indictment of the government on corruption by the Liberal Democratic Party. Though the government moved to stop a Sh2.7 billion passport project, it has exposed its soft belly in graft.

Earlier, the Kanu leaders visited former lawmaker David Manyara at the Nakuru GK Prisons. Accompanied by Mr Manyaras wife, Mary, they talked to the former MP for half an hour.

Mr Manyara and 13 suspected Mungiki members are charged with the murder of 10 people.

Mr Kenyatta urged the youths to seek top seats when the elections date is set. "Time for old men in Kanu is gone and they should now retire peacefully," he said He said Kanu had learnt a big lesson and was now ready to make major overhaul in order to win the next General Elections in 2007.

Mr Kimetto, the Sotik MP, said he would vie for the top seat in the party, alongside Nicholas Biwott, Mutula Kilonzo and Chris Okemo.

Mr William Ruto, the Eldoret North MP claimed the losers during the Bomas conference are behind the circulation of the leaflets.

He urged the residents of the Rift valley to turn out in large numbers once the constitution is put on referendum.
